RSE Day 2026: It begins with me

RSE Day is an annual celebration of great Relationships and Sex Education in schools and other settings. It takes place on the last Thursday in June and is on Thursday 25 June this year.

The theme this year is It begins with me. Our activities have been inspired by the book Have You Filled a Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud, which introduces the idea that everyone carries an invisible bucket. When our bucket is full, we feel happy, confident and valued. Simple acts of kindness such as smiling, helping others, sharing or giving compliments help to fill not only other people’s buckets but our own too. However, unkind behaviour can empty someone else’s bucket as well as our own.

This story helps children understand that they always have a choice in how they behave, and that even small actions can make a big difference. It reinforces the message that self-worth is linked to kindness rather than material things.
